I’m not totally bald, but God has an easy job counting the hairs on my head. In fact, a friend of mine recently told me that when I go to the barber, I would be charged a finder’s fee in addition to the cost of the haircut. I can’t wait to get to heaven to get my full head of hair back.
God Knows All About Me
Even before considering the scriptures, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist or a doctor of theology to understand that God, the creator of each one of us and one who is omniscient, knows everything thing about us, from every hair on our head to every part of us at the molecular level.
That's a Mixed Blessing
I’m not sure about you, but honestly, I find this to be a mixed blessing. It is absolutely reassuring that I am in the hands of a God who knows all about me without exception. He created me, sustains me, understands me, and still loves me and cares for me. Like he would say in the Old Testament to his chosen people, I am one of his people and he is my God.
Even more reassuring and incredible is God’s unlimited knowledge and understanding of all creation, from the tiniest particle to every one of the billions of galaxies we can observe in the universe.
Psalm 147:4-5 reads: “He determines the number of the stars and calls them each by name. Great is our Lord and mighty in power; his understanding has no limit.” Yes, he’s got the whole wide world in his hands.
Out of Sight, Out of Mind?
However, like his chosen people in the Old Testament, I am prone to see what I can get away with. “Out of sight out of mind” does cut it with God.
You, me, all of us, regardless of our Christian denomination or otherwise, have a God who sees and knows everything we do, even when we are alone with the blinds shut, the lights off, and our eyes closed. Even when we know no one is watching.
A Good Litmus Test
A good litmus test to apply before doing something you think might be questionable, or before succumbing to a temptation, is to ask what God will see, what your loved ones or close friends would say, even what your deceased family members would say or are saying looking down on you from behind the Pearly Gates.
God’s omniscience with all its divine characteristics, total innate knowledge, absolute infallibility, and simultaneous knowledge of all things, including the deepest things of our hearts and souls, should have a profound effect on the way we live.
Our lives in the face of such an awesome God should be based on humility and reverence. “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge.” (Psalm 1:7)
Smile and Celebrate God's Protection
Remember, the next time you’re in a barber shop or a beauty salon, think about the Lord our God, who not only knows and numbers every hair on your head, but also cares deeply for you. Smile and celebrate God’s presence and protection.
If the barber or beautician asks why you’re smiling, quote Luke 12:7, “Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don't be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.”

Think About It
Explain the implications God’s omniscience has for your life. Have you lived in a way respectful of who God is and his divine characteristics?
Do you ever think about how God sees and knows everything about you? Recall when you may have thought about that and the circumstances.
How does the idea of the fear of or reverence for God affect your prayer life, worship, and other ways of adoration?
