Who Are Your Two Divine Advocates?

The world and the country in which I live, and perhaps the country in which you live, are broken and in need of repair. God’s Church also needs mending and protection. No amount of political super glue or duct tape will repair what’s been done or will be done. That’s the bad news.
The good news is found in the Gospel of Jesus Christ. And one of the most exciting and hopeful highlights of that Gospel is the fact that you and I have TWO advocates.
When we accept Jesus Christ as our personal Savior, you and I accept the assistance of two divine persons who will help us, plead our cases, comfort us, and go to bat for us.
We have Jesus upon his throne with the Father.
“My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have an advocate with the Father—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One.” (1 John 2:1)
We have the Holy Spirit alive and well in us and in the world to empower us to connect our faith to our daily lives.
"But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you." (John 14:26)
Do I fully understand how all this works? No, for God’s ways and his thoughts are higher than mine (Isa. 55:9). But I believe that’s all the more reason to offer praise and thanksgiving for the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit being active in our lives, the Church at large, and the world.
It’s all the more reason to be confident, hopeful, and emboldened in our Christian walk.
